Home Battery Brands Compared: Capacity, Warranty and Cost

There’s no single best home battery. The right one depends on how much you want to store, how much you’re willing to pay for it, and increasingly, whether the manufacturer will still be trading in ten years to honour the warranty. That last point isn’t hypothetical: GivEnergy, previously one of the most commonly quoted battery and inverter brands in the UK, entered administration in April 2026. Existing systems keep working since the hardware doesn’t depend on GivEnergy’s servers, but the company itself is no longer honouring new hardware warranties. Worth keeping in mind if any quote you’re comparing includes their kit.

How the main brands compare

Brand & model Usable capacity Chemistry Cycle life / warranty Rough cost guide
Tesla Powerwall 3 13.5kWh LFP 10-year warranty, 70% capacity retained £8,500 to £12,000 installed
Puredrive Duracell Dura5 / Dura16 5.12kWh / 14.4kWh LFP 8,000 cycles, 10-year warranty Sits in the mid-range, UK-designed and UK-warrantied
SolaX Triple Power 5.8kWh per module, stackable to 23kWh LFP Around 6,000 cycles, 10-year warranty Roughly £1,200 to £1,900 per module before installation
sonnen sonnenBatterie 5 to 15kWh depending on configuration LFP 10,000 cycles, 10-year warranty (20-year design life) No reliable UK price found, ask installers directly
Enphase IQ Battery 5P 5kWh, modular and AC-coupled LFP 6,000 cycles or 15-year warranty Sold and installed per module, pricing varies by installer

Installed cost depends heavily on your inverter setup, whether you’re adding to existing solar, and how many modules you need for your usage. See our battery storage cost and payback guide for how these prices translate into savings, or get matched with an installer for a figure based on your own home rather than these UK-wide ranges.

Usable capacity isn’t the number on the box

A battery’s rated capacity and its usable capacity aren’t always the same thing. Most modern lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries can be discharged close to 100%, but older or budget units sometimes reserve 10 to 20% to protect the cells, so check “usable” rather than “rated” when you’re comparing two quotes side by side.

Chemistry: LFP has become the standard, and that’s a good thing

Almost every battery on this list, and most of what UK installers currently fit, uses lithium iron phosphate rather than the nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) chemistry that was common a few years ago. LFP is less prone to thermal runaway, tolerates more full charge cycles before it degrades, and is generally considered the safer choice for a battery mounted inside or against a house. If you’re being quoted an older or unfamiliar brand, it’s worth asking directly what chemistry it uses.

Cycle life and warranty years don’t always mean the same thing

A battery rated for 6,000 cycles sounds like a lot until you realise most households only complete one full charge and discharge cycle a day at most, often less. At one cycle a day, 6,000 cycles works out to over 16 years of use, well beyond the 10-year warranty most brands actually offer. In practice, the warranty length is usually the more binding limit than the cycle count, so it’s the number worth comparing first.

Whose name is actually on the warranty

This is the part that matters more after 2026 than it used to. A battery is a ten-year-plus commitment, and the GivEnergy collapse showed that even a well-known UK brand can stop honouring its warranty with little notice. Puredrive’s Duracell-branded batteries are designed and warrantied directly by a UK company (Puredrive Energy, under licence from Duracell), which gives some reassurance about who you’re actually dealing with if something goes wrong. Whichever brand you’re quoted, it’s worth asking your installer directly who underwrites the warranty, and checking they’re MCS-certified before you commit.

Frequently asked questions

What's the best home battery brand in the UK?

There isn't a single best one, it depends on your budget, how much capacity you need, and how much you value a manufacturer with a long UK track record. Tesla Powerwall 3 is the largest single unit, sonnen and SolaX offer flexible stacked capacity, and Puredrive's Duracell range is a UK-warrantied mid-range option.

Is my GivEnergy battery still covered under warranty?

GivEnergy Ltd entered administration in April 2026 and is no longer honouring new hardware warranties. Installed systems keep working, since the hardware doesn't rely on GivEnergy's servers, but you should check with your installer or the appointed administrator about your specific warranty position.

What battery chemistry should I look for?

Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) is now the standard for good reason: it's safer, handles more charge cycles before degrading, and is what almost every current brand uses. If a quote lists an unfamiliar brand, ask directly which chemistry it uses.
